Adult Education
•
Our most dominant program is our adult education program that is funded by Texas Education Agency. The program is the EL Civics where we combine the teaching of Civics and English Literacy. Our target group of people is immigrants with limited English proficiency. Most of our clients do not speak any English when they come to us. We work with them to the point where they are capable of functioning within their community and speaking with their children’s teachers. We have been funded the past three years by this funding source. The basic criteria to continue receiving the funds is that we must train over 500 hundred students per year and 65% must show progress of at least one level. In addition they must spend a minimum of 40,000 hours in the classroom in the aggregate. This proves to be quite a challenge but we have done well in meeting these objectives. |
